7.98

例三義往推，上諸說法，迹而非本，始滿始說，中間被拂，中間滿中間說，尚皆方便。況今滿今說，寧非迹耶？執迹則俱失，拂迹則俱解。非迹非本，不思議一也。

By analogy, deducing through the three meanings, all the above teachings are traces and not the original source: beginning to be fulfilled and beginning to be expounded, then brushed away in the intermediate periods; even when fulfilled and expounded in the intermediate periods, they are still all expedient means. How much more so for what is now fulfilled and now expounded—how could it not be a trace? Clinging to the traces results in losing both; brushing away the traces results in understanding both. Neither trace nor original source—the inconceivable is one.
