小乘淺近，一生斷結，喻如小家。大乘深遠，通處則長，譬如大家，須千門萬戶也，三四何足為多耶？

The Hīnayāna is shallow and immediate, severing fetters in a single lifetime, like a small household. The Mahāyāna is deep and vast, and the realms it traverses are long, like a great clan that must have thousands of gates and myriad doors; how could three sets of four be considered too many?
