As for the mind containing subtle emergence: the initial momentary mind subtly exists; the next mind is as if present, as if absent; next it gradually increases and grows; subsequently it becomes determinate, and giving free vent to the mind, it emerges from the mouth. This is the subtle emergence of speech. When the beginner practices, the practice is still subtle and weak; next it is slightly established; subsequently it becomes great practice. This is the subtle emergence of practice. Initially contemplating the mind, one does not see the principle of the mind; cultivating further, it is indistinctly seen, until resemblance and reality [are reached]. This is the subtle emergence of principle.
