Explaining 'having nothing to do' in terms of principle: this is the ultimate principle. In terms of teaching, 'having nothing to do' means that having heard this teaching, one never listens to another. In terms of practice, 'having nothing to do' means that having cultivated this practice, one never alters one's track. Such are the various meanings of 'having nothing to do' (and so on). To state it briefly, it is through the subtle awakening in accordance with wisdom that one comes to see the substance of the sūtra. One should take the intention of this subtle awakening in accordance with wisdom and pass through the various realms of truth: at each and every stage there are various distinctions of following emotion, following wisdom, and following both emotion and wisdom; eliminating the remaining emotional imaginings, one adopts solely that which follows wisdom, clearly seeing the substance of the sūtra.
