Fourth, properly presenting the present view. This has two parts: first, briefly utilizing his terms to reveal the meaning of subtlety. The cause possessing three aspects: one dharma realm possessing the nine dharma realms is called 'broad substance.' The nine dharma realms being identical to the Buddha dharma realm is called 'high rank.' The ten dharma realms being identically empty, identically provisional, and identically middle is called 'long function.' Discussing three in terms of the one, and discussing one in terms of the three—neither distinct, nor horizontal, nor one—hence it is called 'subtle.' The fruit's substance possessing three aspects: the substance pervading all places is called 'broad substance.' Having long since achieved buddhahood in the remote and distant past is called 'high rank.' Projecting traces from the original source to benefit beings throughout the three times of past, present, and future is called 'long function.' These are the six aspects of cause and fruit, which differ from other sūtras, and therefore it is called 'subtle.'
