The dharma of warmth generates wisdom by taking the objects of the four truths as conditions, subdues defilements, and as wisdom further increases, it accomplishes the sixteen contemplative wisdoms. Like a fire drill, upper and lower relying on each other, producing fire to burn the firewood: because there is wisdom knowing that there is an object, it can generate the wisdom of warmth and cause existence to wither away. Like heaping flowers into a mound in the summertime, where the flowers generate heat and wither of themselves; again, relying on the aggregates, contemplating the aggregates, generating the fire of wisdom that turns back to burn the aggregates, like two pieces of bamboo rubbing together to generate fire that turns back to burn the bamboo grove. Venerable Ghoṣaka said: For the fire of wisdom that seeks liberation, warmth is foremost at the beginning. Just as fire has smoke at the beginning as its characteristic, the fire of uncontaminated wisdom also has the dharma of warmth first as its characteristic. Just as the sun has the sign of dawn at the beginning as its characteristic, therefore it is called warmth.
