Because path and cessation are superior. Being pure and faultless, they are subtle and free from [defilements]. As the locus that can generate faith, they are stated in order to produce a mind of faith and joy in those to be transformed. If the World-Honoured One had taught suffering and arising as what is to be believed in and revered, there would be no one to be transformed. These afflictions, evil actions, wrong views, and perversions—how could they be revered and believed in? I am constantly oppressed by these. Those to be transformed give rise to joy and delight in path and cessation; therefore only two are spoken of.
