3. The stage of the eight types of persons: this refers to the two kinds of practitioners of the three vehicles—those practicing by faith and those practicing by Dharma. Understanding the provisional nature of views in order to manifest the real and sever delusions, while in unhindered samādhi, they fully possess the eight patiences and lack only one portion of knowledge; hence it is named the stage of the eight types of persons.
