If one understands these four meanings, then with every bowing of the head and raising of the hand, blessing is not discarded in vain; though having no stimulus all day, one has no regret all day. If one sees someone fond of killing having a long life, or someone fond of giving being poor, one will not give rise to wrong views. If one does not understand this, one will say that their effort was in vain and their plans lost, grieving, regretting, and losing principle. The [Mahāprajñāpāramitā-]śāstra says: 'My present sickness and suffering are all due to the past; cultivating blessings in this life, the retribution is in the future; keep right mindfulness without deviation.' This attains these four meanings.
