There are two kinds of seeing: first, resemblance seeing; second, partial-truth seeing. As for resemblance [seeing], it is as distinguished in [the stage of] purity of the six faculties. Concerning its true seeing, it is as explained in the Avataṃsaka, the buddha-eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, and mind. In this sūtra, the characteristic of the true bodily penetration is also explained: the so-called 'universal manifestation of physical form, displaying the body that all sentient beings delight to see', is precisely the external bodily penetration; displaying a body like lapis lazuli, wherein the Buddhas of the ten directions all manifest within the body, is precisely the internal manifestation of bodily penetration. The eye, ear, nose, tongue, and so on manifesting internally and externally are also patterned after this. Thus the spiritual penetrations of the perfect teaching are different from those previously discerned, and so forth.
