The first category, the untranslated [sūtra]: the mind contains good, evil, all mental factors, and the like. One should know that this mind is the capital of all dharmas; how could it be determinately judged? If evil were the mind, the mind could not contain good and the various mental factors. If good were the mind, the mind could not contain evil and the various mental factors. Not knowing by what to designate the mind, the concise is used in place of the comprehensive; thus we know that the concise mind can contain the myriad dharmas, how much more so the five meanings! As the Avataṃsaka says: "Within a single mote of dust there is a sūtra scroll of the trichiliocosm"; this is its meaning.
