Next, from "The practitioner" downward clarifies the third grade, comprising three: first clarifying the characteristics of the third grade; next, from "Ease of practice" downward, citing verifications; third, from "Expounding the Dharma" downward, concluding the stage. The first is as in the text. Next, citing three passages: "Ease of Practice" is evident. Next, the Vimalakīrti text saying "expounding the Dharma is pure" and so forth: only expounding the perfect and eternal with no attachment in the inner mind is called pure. As cited from "Ease of Practice" saying "only replying with Mahāyāna teachings" and so forth, one therefore knows that through the power of expounding the Dharma, one internally perfumes one's own wisdom, causing it to become doubly pure, with the merits of conversion returning to oneself; the intention lies in this. Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna are identical in this; therefore the Abhidharma is cited as an analogous example. If one says "hearing the Dharma attains liberation", that belongs to the beginning of the stage of rejoicing; the textual intentions are distinct and only gathered together here.
