次明不定文三：初結前生後，次「雖」下釋相，三「味味中」下結。初文者，為對祕密須安顯露之言，故知通論顯露俱攝漸頓。今於五味義後，欲別明不定亦是顯露，故初標之以冠不定。相異漸頓，故曰「不然」。

Next, explaining the indeterminate has three parts: first, concluding the preceding to introduce the following; second, from "Although..." downward, explaining the characteristics; third, from "Within each flavor..." downward, concluding. As for the first text: to contrast with the secret, the phrase "manifest" must be placed; hence one knows that, spoken broadly, the manifest encompasses both gradual and sudden. Now, after the meaning of the five flavors, wishing to explain specifically that the indeterminate is also manifest, it is initially placed at the head to govern the indeterminate. Its characteristics differ from the gradual and sudden; therefore it says, "Not so."
