Next, explaining that the latter reach to the beginning has two parts: first Nirvāṇa, and next the Lotus Sūtra. The first text has two parts: first establishing it, and next explaining it. The explanation has two parts: first based on principle, and next, from "The Great Sūtra" onward, corroborating it. Next, the Lotus Sūtra has two parts: first, distinguishing the manifest and secret; next, the conclusion. When it says "pervasive prediction," in the past the Buddha's intent in conferring predictions was not obstructed; the sentiments of the Hinayāna were separated and they did not seek it themselves; how much more so when, in terms of the secret, he had already conferred predictions on the two vehicles! Arguing on this basis, it reaches to the Deer Park. Next, in resolving doubts, where it says "the Separate Teaching again has four": in the Separate Teaching, the ten abodes cultivate arising and non-arising, the ten practices cultivate the immeasurable, the ten dedications cultivate the non-active, and ascending the bhūmis verifies the non-active; hence it says "it has four." Moreover, in the ten practices one practices the various Buddha-dharmas, completely practicing the sixteen gates; this is also called four.
