20.41

○從「記者私錄異同」下是章安雜錄隨己異聞，不關於記大師說也。故不依文次，亦無深淺。於中為二：初雜記異聞，次「惟文」下述己推師結前生後。

From "The recorder privately sets down agreements and differences" onward, this consists of Zhang'an's miscellaneous records following what he himself had heard from different sources, and does not pertain to recording the Great Master's expounding. Therefore it does not follow the order of the text, nor does it have [a hierarchy of] depth or shallowness. Within this, there are two parts: first, he miscellaneously records different things heard; second, from "Only the text..." onward, he narrates his own thoughts, praises the Master, concludes what came before, and generates what follows.
