Under [the twelve links of] non-arising there are six [parts]: first, setting forth the intent; second, setting forth the faculties; third, the correct explanation; fourth, citing scriptural testimony; fifth, adducing an analogy; sixth, concluding with the name. To summarize it, it is simply the four propositions refuting provisional appearances and the two kinds of emptiness—nature and characteristic; thus it receives the name 'illusion and transformation being identical to emptiness.' The first five parts of the text are easy to see. In the conclusion, the analogy comes first, followed by the application. The statement in the analogy, 'like a vine [mistaken for] a snake,' can also illustrate what is fundamentally inherent in the perfect gate; here it is used generally to illustrate non-arising. The distinction can be known.
