Next, clarifying the three truths also has two parts: first, establishing the names and meanings based on other teachings; second, directly opening the chapters and explaining them. In the first text there are also three parts: first, establishing the names based on other sūtras; second, establishing them by analogy based on the present sūtra; third, questions, answers, and analytical discrimination. The first two are as in the text. In the third, the analytical discrimination, first comes the question, next the answer. In the answer there are three parts: first, adducing the Śrīmālā to analogize the Nirvāṇa in order to reprove the incoming question; second, re-adducing the Laṅkāvatāra to analogize other sūtras in order to respond to the incoming challenge; third, the conclusion. The first text has two: first, a general reproof; second, the explanation; next, the analogy; third, the conclusion can be understood. Next, directly clarifying the three truths itself has three parts: the first also has two: first, clarifying what is discarded and what is adopted, which is the incoming intent; second, directly explaining the five texts. In the first text, where it says "in terms of the Separate entering the Common, pointing to neither defiled nor undefiled," this points out the Middle Way within the true truth, hence called "double negation"; when discussed within the teaching itself, since it differs from emptiness, there is double negation. Where it says "one-three-three-one as in the Zhiguan," it is as in the third fascicle under revealing the essence and in the seventh fascicle under refuting the horizontal and vertical. In the classification there are also two: opening in terms of teaching and opening in terms of flavor, as in the text.
