Next, from "Why is this?" down, the explanation also has two parts: first, generally explaining the present intention; second, explaining through the teachings. The first part has two subparts: first, narrating the general meaning; second, the reason for deriving the names. If spoken of generally, each teaching has higher, middle, and lower people, fully conforming to the purport of the Vibhāṣā text; now, proceeding from specific correlations, one designates "lower" and so on from the lower. In this there are two: first, explaining each individually; second, from "by means of the four teachings" down, concluding in praise. The first part naturally has four divisions. Next, in proceeding through the teachings, there are two parts: first, the explanation; second, explaining the classification and opening. The first part naturally has four divisions. As all contemplation methods arise from feeling: if a pratyekabuddha initiates contemplation on their own, it should follow the Āgamas, where arising and perishing each have reverse and forward objects of contemplation; merely performing this contemplation, they naturally extinguish all delusions. Now, the Great and Small, the biased and the perfect, share these contemplation methods; furthermore, do not dependent origination and the four truths have different names but the same meaning? In the four truths, contemplating suffering is the initial gate; thus now in contemplating dependent origination, one also first initiates the path of suffering. Just as in the four [kinds of] four truths, suffering universally occupies the first position, so the four contemplations of conditions all arise from feeling. Knowing suffering and severing accumulation do not differ in sequence, but because the applications of wisdom and views are different, one must divide these into four.
