The Sūtra of the Wise and the Foolish says: "During the final Dharma age of Puṣya Buddha, there was a famine. There was a pratyekabuddha named Ṛṣidatta who went begging with an empty bowl and obtained nothing. A poor man saw him, felt pity, and addressed him, 'Can the superior man accept millet?' He then offered what he had been eating. Having eaten, [the pratyekabuddha] performed the eighteen transformations. Later, while gathering millet again, a hare leaped onto his back and transformed into a corpse; with no companion, he could not free himself. Waiting until dark, he returned home; when it dropped to the ground, it immediately turned into a golden corpse. When he plucked a finger, another grew in its place; when he used a foot, another emerged—taken inexhaustibly. Evil people and an evil king came wishing to seize it, but they saw only a dead corpse, while what he beheld was purely gold and treasure. For ninety-one kalpas he enjoyed the retribution of abundant sufficiency; hence he was called 'Free from Poverty.' After he was born, his household wealth was overflowing, increasing day and night. His parents wished to test him, so they covered an empty vessel and sent it to him; when uncovered and viewed, it was fully laden with a hundred delicacies. Before his gate there were always twelve thousand people every day: six thousand taking loans and six thousand repaying their values. After he went forth from home, wherever he went people were delighted to see him; whatever he needed was no different from being in his own home."
