1.40

「我聞」者，或「聞如是」，蓋經本不同，前後互舉耳。今例為四釋，《大論》云：「耳根不壞聲在可聞處，作心欲聞，眾緣和合，故言我聞。」

As for "I have heard" (我聞)—or "heard thus" (聞如是)—it is merely because sūtra manuscripts differ and state them in reverse order. Now following the pattern, it is given four explanations. The Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa says: "When the auditory faculty is intact, sound is in a hearable place, one arouses the intention to hear, and the assembly of conditions coalesces, therefore one says 'I have heard.'"
