序品第一（佛出世難，佛說是難，傳譯此難，自開悟難，聞師講難，一遍記難。余二十七於金陵聽受，六十九於丹丘添削，留贈後賢，共期佛慧）

Introductory Chapter, Number One (It is difficult for a Buddha to appear in the world; it is difficult for a Buddha to preach this; it is difficult to transmit and translate this; it is difficult to awaken to it on one's own; it is difficult to hear a master lecture on it; it is difficult to record it in a single hearing. At twenty-seven, I heard and received it in Jinling; at sixty-nine, I made additions and deletions at Danqiu, leaving it as a gift for later worthies so that we may together attain the Buddha's wisdom.)
