1.85

本迹者，本登涅槃山頂，與無明癡愛父母、結業妻子別，出分段、變易家，久除五住，何惡不破？獲真法喜，如食乳糜更無所須。持中道道共尸波羅蜜攝眾生戒度，魔界降伏，即佛界如。堪任乘御，本地功德久已成就，為調眾生，迹示五味比丘傳引眾生，例如前釋。

Regarding origin and traces: in their origin, they ascended to the summit of the mountain of nirvāṇa, parting from parents of ignorance and delusion-attachment as well as wives and children of binding karma, leaving the household of fragmentary and changeful births and deaths, and having long eradicated the five entrenchments; what evil did they not destroy? Having obtained the joy of the true Dharma, just as one who eats milk porridge has no need of anything else; upholding the middle-way path-concomitant śīlapāramitā that gathers sentient beings through the perfection of precepts, the realm of Māra is subjugated, which is identical to the suchness of the Buddha-realm. Fit to mount and steer [the vehicle], the virtues of their original ground have long been accomplished; to tame sentient beings, in their traces they manifest as bhikṣus of the five flavors to successively lead sentient beings, analogous to the previous explanation.
