10.19

「以是功德」下，第二，正格多少也。「若善男子」下，第三，明位行不退。別六心猶退七心不退，圓初住心即不退，聞壽量功德自外而資，圓順信解自內而熏所以不退。《大品》云「有菩薩退有不退」，有魔無魔皆此義也。

From 'By this merit' onward is second, the actual assessment of quantity. From 'If a good son' onward is third, clarifying non-retrogression in stage and practice. In the distinctive [teaching], the six minds may still retrogress while the seventh mind does not; in the perfect [teaching], the mind of the first abode is immediately non-retrogressing. Hearing the merit of the lifespan aids from without, while perfectly harmonizing faith and understanding perfumes from within; therefore there is no retrogression. The Dapin says, 'There are bodhisattvas who retrogress and those who do not'; whether Māra is present or absent, all have this meaning.
