10.4

次，五行，頌譬，為二：一行頌開譬，為三：初一句，頌過去；「為治」下二句，頌現在，不頌未來也，「無能說」下，第三，一句，頌不虛。「後我亦為」下，第二，四行，頌合譬。上合中本不合未來，今初半行頌合過去；次「凡夫」下，第二，二行半，頌合現在；後「每自作」下，第三，一行，頌合不虛，開三顯一、開近顯遠，欲令眾生速入佛道，此事必得不虛也。

Next, the five verses versify the parable, divided into two: one verse versifies opening the parable, which has three parts: the first line versifies the past; the two lines from "for the sake of curing" onwards versify the present and do not versify the future; from "no one can say" onwards, the third [part], consisting of one line, versifies being not false. From "Later, I also, for the sake of" onwards, the second [part], consisting of four verses, versifies the application of the parable. In the application above, it originally did not apply to the future; now the first half verse versifies the application to the past; next, from "ordinary beings" onwards, the second [part], consisting of two and a half verses, versifies the application to the present; later, from "always making this thought" onwards, the third [part], consisting of one verse, versifies the application of being not false: opening the three and revealing the one, opening the near and revealing the distant, wishing to cause sentient beings quickly to enter the Buddha Way—this matter will surely be obtained and is not false.
