10.87

文中自釋，昔奉雲雷音王佛十萬種妓，今遊化他土音樂自隨；昔奉八萬四千寶鉢，今爾許道器眷屬圍遶；昔得一切眾生語言陀羅尼，今以普現色身，以妙音聲遍吼十方弘宣此教，故名「妙音品」。此品明菩薩以難思之力，隨類通經，物覩其迹莫測其本，但甘其味無擇其形，當卑其地自壅其流，即是化他門中第二意也。

The text itself explains: in the past he offered one hundred thousand kinds of music to the Buddha Meghasvaradīpa, and now when wandering to convert other lands, music accompanies him naturally; in the past he offered eighty-four thousand precious bowls, and now that many vessels of the Way and retinue surround him; in the past he attained the dhāraṇī of all living beings' languages, and now with the universally manifest physical body, he roars throughout the ten directions with a wondrous voice to propagate this teaching; hence it is named the "Gadgadasvara Chapter." This chapter illuminates that the bodhisattva, through inconceivable power, transmits the sūtra according to kinds [of beings]. Living beings see his traces without comprehending his origin, but relish its flavor without choosing its form. If one demeans his ground, one obstructs one's own flow; this is the second purpose within the approach of converting others.
