2.69

「八萬人」者，數也。餘經集眾甚多，此經何少？或是語其大數，或譬王論密事，不可率土同謀（云云）。

'Eighty-thousand persons' is the number. Assemblies gathered in other sūtras were very large; why is it so small in this sūtra? It is either stating their broad number, or is like a king discussing confidential matters, which cannot be deliberated upon with the entire country (and so forth).
