復有人解，方便是權爾，實是審實；又方便是權巧，實是智慧；又方便是權假，假三車於門外；又方便是權宜，宜說三乘故；又權是譬名，譬如秤錘前之則重，却之則輕，處中則平，合於佛智照察稱量。如是等釋各取一途，權爾、權假約處所，權宜約法門，權巧秤錘約智能，各不包含，義不融妙，不可用此釋今品。

Furthermore, someone explains: 'Expedient means' is provisionality (*quan*), while 'real' is exact certainty. Also: 'expedient means' is skillful means, while 'real' is wisdom. Also: 'expedient means' is provisional borrowal, borrowing the three carts outside the gate. Also: 'expedient means' is circumstantial suitability, because it was suitable to teach the Three Vehicles. Also: 'expedient' (*quan*) is a metaphorical name, like a balance weight (*quan*): moved forward it is heavy, pulled back it is light, placed in the center it is balanced, which corresponds to the Buddha's wisdom discerning and weighing. Explanations such as these each take one approach: provisionality and provisional borrowal relate to locus; circumstantial suitability relates to dharma-gates; skillful means and the balance weight relate to intellectual ability. None encompasses the others, and their meanings are not integrated and wonderful; they cannot be used to explain the present chapter.
