4.30

八相是應記，既得應記知必有本，欲使物知聞共結來緣，故與應記耳。又此二乘若聞〈壽量〉，即同損生得法身記也。

The eight phases are a prediction of the response body. Having attained the prediction of the response body, one knows there must be the origin. In order to let beings know and hear this so as to forge future karmic bonds together, [the Buddha] confers the prediction of the response body. Furthermore, if these [practitioners of] the two vehicles hear the 'Lifespan' [chapter], they will likewise diminish their births and attain the prediction of the dharma body.
