5.22

三藏說三僧祇未斷惑，一斷即入真；通教說菩薩斷正留習，習盡即成佛。初聞略說悉云方便，昔真昔成，竟知安在？又三乘同學一道，何意有別？今聞《法華》掃蕩諸疑無復遺芥。

The Tripiṭaka teaching says that for three asaṃkhyeya [kalpas] delusions are not yet severed, and as soon as they are severed one enters the truth; the shared teaching says that bodhisattvas sever active afflictions and retain residual habits, and when the habits are exhausted they immediately attain buddhahood. When they initially heard the brief exposition all called expedient, where after all were the truth of the past and the attainment of the past to be found? Furthermore, the three vehicles study the one path together; why should there be any distinction? Now, hearing the Lotus Sūtra, all doubts are swept clean, leaving not a particle behind.
