8.59

「爾時佛告」下，第六，佛答。此三：一、先答第二問，此佛有願為證法華，故從地涌出也。「彼佛成道」下，追答第一問，由彼佛命令造此塔也。次「其佛以神」下，第三答第三，為作證明，故發是音聲也。《釋論》明多寶佛不得說法而取滅度，師解不爾。彼佛告諸比丘，比丘即是受化之人，何謂不說？當是多寶亦得開三不得顯實，故《釋論》云不得說法耳。以是義故，雖復滅度，在在處處有說《法華經》，便隨喜作證也。

From 'At that time the Buddha told' downward is the sixth part, the Buddha's answer. This has three points: first, answering the second question first—because this Buddha has a vow to bear witness to the Lotus Sūtra, he wells up from the earth. From 'When that Buddha attained the Way' downward retrospectively answers the first question: it was due to that Buddha's command that this stūpa was constructed. Next, from 'That Buddha, with divine...' downward, thirdly answers the third question: to bear witness, he emitted this voice. The Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa explains that Prabhūtaratna Buddha could not preach the Dharma and took extinction. The master interprets that this is not so. That Buddha addressed the bhikṣus, and bhikṣus are people who receive transformation; how could he not have preached? It must be that Prabhūtaratna was able to open the three, but not able to reveal the real; hence the Mahāprajñāpāramitopadeśa says he could not preach the Dharma. For this reason, although he has entered extinction, wherever the Lotus Sūtra is preached, he rejoices and comes to bear witness.
