9.37

偈十四行，頌上法譬：五行頌法說，九行頌譬說。法說中三：初一行，頌執近；次「此諸佛子」下，第二，二行三句，頌疑遠；後「云何而可」下，第三，一行一句，頌結請。頌譬中，初二行，頌開譬；後「世尊亦如是」下七行，頌合譬。亦三：就初二句頌合近；次「是諸菩薩等志」下，第二，三行半，頌合遠；後「我等從佛聞」下，第三，三行，頌合請答（云云）。

The fourteen gāthās versify the above dharma and parable: five gāthās versify the dharma explanation, and nine gāthās versify the parabolic explanation. In the dharma explanation are three: the first gāthā versifies clinging to the near; next, from 'These sons of the Buddha' down is, second, two gāthās and three lines, versifying doubting the distant; afterwards, from 'How could it be' down is, third, one gāthā and one line, versifying the concluding request. In versifying the parable: the first two gāthās versify the opening of the parable; afterwards, from 'The World-Honoured One is also like this' down, seven gāthās versify matching the parable. This also has three: the first two lines versify matching the near; next, from 'The aspirations of these bodhisattvas' down is, second, three and a half gāthās, versifying matching the distant; afterwards, from 'We, having heard from the Buddha' down is, third, three gāthās, versifying matching the request for an answer (and so forth).
