9.47

近成是方便，遠成是真實者，《華嚴》寂滅道場、《大經》超前九劫，皆成方便；若爾，《法華》開遠竟，常不輕那更近？當知《法華》已復方便。若爾，會三歸一竟，亦應不會三歸一。若爾，開三顯一諸佛道同，開近顯遠亦諸佛道同。若爾，諸佛皆爾，非獨釋迦；若獨釋迦，前諸義壞。

If recent attainment is an expedient and distant attainment is the real, then the site of enlightenment of quiet extinction in the Avataṃsaka Sūtra and surpassing the prior nine kalpas in the Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra would both become expedients. If so, after the Lotus Sūtra opened the distant, why would Sadāparibhūta be even more recent? One should know that the Lotus Sūtra would itself again be an expedient. If so, after converging the three to return to the one, it should also not converge the three to return to the one. If so, 'opening the three and revealing the one' is the identical path of all buddhas, and 'opening the near and revealing the distant' is also the identical path of all buddhas. If so, all buddhas are all like this, not Śākyamuni alone; if it were Śākyamuni alone, the aforementioned meanings would be ruined.
