廣開近顯遠，文為二：先、誡信，次、正答。佛旨論誡眾受為信，此文有三誡三請、重請重誡，迹門三請一誡，此中四請四誡，前後合五誡七請，奇特大事殷勤鄭重也。「誠」是忠誠，「諦」是審實，不欺於物言則詣真。昔七方便隨他意語非告誠實，今隨自意語示之以要，故言「誠諦」。菩薩既奉誠誡不敢致疑，聞必取信，信受誠言也。

Broadly opening the near and revealing the distant has two parts in the text: first, admonishing them to believe; second, the direct answer. The Buddha's intent discoursing on admonition and the assembly receiving it constitutes faith. In this text there are three admonitions and three requests, repeating the requests and repeating the admonitions. In the traces section there were three requests and one admonition; here there are four requests and four admonitions, combining before and after into five admonitions and seven requests, earnest and grave regarding this singular great matter. "Sincere" (chéng) is loyalty and sincerity; "truthful" (dì) is careful and actual; without deceiving beings, speech reaches the truth. Formerly, the seven expedient means were speech according with the minds of others, not the proclamation of what is sincere and actual; now, speech according with his own mind demonstrates the essential to them, hence it is said to be "sincere and truthful." The bodhisattvas, having received the sincere admonition, dare not raise doubts; upon hearing they will certainly take faith, believing and receiving the sincere words.
