As for "at one time" (一時): Master Sengzhao said: "The time when the Dharma King inaugurates his course and holds an auspicious assembly," which is the worldly [siddhānta]. The treatise says: "Kāla is the real time," showing the time for internal disciples; wearing robes at mealtime is individual adaptation. "Samaya is the conventional time," destroying the false views of external paths, which is counteractive. When time accords with the Way, that is the paramārtha-satya (and so on). From seeing the truth (darśana-mārga) and above down to arhatship is called the lower "at one time"; the three types of persons entering together into the paramārtha-satya is called the middle "at one time"; ascending to the bhūmis and above is called the upper "at one time"; from the initial abounding stage (prathama-vihāra) and above is called the supreme "at one time." The present sūtra is the supreme "at one time." This is discriminating in terms of the teachings.
