From 'Gentlemen, you should know' onward is the third: concluding the reunion of father and son. 'Truly having received learning from me, he is truly my son; having given rise to understanding from me, he was born of me. I truly once taught him the great Dharma under twenty thousand billion buddhas; therefore, I am truly his father.' 'In a certain city': this sūtra had many words in the Western country, but very little was translated here; or perhaps it mentioned the names and lands of the past, like the causal conditions of Mahābhijñājñānābhibhū, and here the names are simplified, directly saying 'a certain [city]'. These sentient beings turned their backs on this Mahāyāna, gave rise to the darkness of ignorance, and fled into birth and death; hence it says, 'abandoned me and ran away.' Passing through all the six destinies, it says 'more than fifty years.' 'Formerly in that city, harboring grief, I sought him out': from the former ground of the dharmakāya, he constantly used the two kinds of wisdom to look for and seek out capacities that could be transformed. Only today has there been mutual resonance between capacity and response; therefore it says, 'Suddenly, right here, I met and saw him.'
