1.122

真諦事理，於中道理，俱名為事。若前二教，不得用此以為破惡，以讓理故；今此圓教，故得用之。

Both the phenomenon and principle of the absolute truth, and the principle of the middle, are together called phenomena. In the former two teachings, one cannot use this to destroy evil, because of deferring to principle; but in this perfect teaching, one is therefore able to use it.
