「品者」，序名在別，品義則通下去諸品，以通從別不復更釋，故但釋別以置於通。此中先翻名、次釋義、後明立品所以。所言義者，釋品字義，非品題義，故字義則通、題名從別。

Regarding "chapter" (pin): the name "preface" resides in the specific, while the meaning of "chapter" is common to all the subsequent chapters; subsuming the general under the specific, it is not explained again, so only the specific is explained while setting aside the general. Herein, first the name is translated, next the meaning is explained, and finally the reason for establishing chapters is clarified. What is called "meaning" explains the meaning of the character pin, not the meaning of the chapter title; therefore, the meaning of the character is general, while the title name follows the specific.
