次「夫眾生」下，疑問意者，既云四義乃曰處中，秖因緣一義尚機眾應眾，其義更廣，何名處中？義似過四，故云更也。所言眾者，即五乘九界等也。

Next, regarding “Now, sentient beings…” and so forth, the intention of the question is: since it is said that the four meanings hit the middle, yet the single meaning of causes and conditions alone already involves multiple capacities and multiple responses, its meaning being even broader, how can it be called hitting the middle? Its meaning seems to exceed four, hence it says “further.” What are referred to as “multiple” are the five vehicles, nine realms, and so forth.
