The three siddhāntas: the first is the mundane; from '*Karuṇāpuṇḍarīka*' downward is for the individual; from 'my practice' downward is the therapeutic. If named from surpassing others, it means being wiser than all, which is called 'Samantabhadra' (Universal Worthy). As for the words from 'namely the three siddhāntas' to 'explained': since translating the name and generating the vows correspond in meaning to the three siddhāntas, it says 'further is' and 'moreover are practice and vows'. Downward from 'Moreover, practice and vows', it also points back to the three siddhāntas as all being practice and vows; that is, using the three siddhāntas to classify practice and vows. The reason the supreme truth has not yet been established is that in explaining 'worthy' (bhadra), yielding to the sages is only then called the supreme truth; therefore, the vows in the *Karuṇāpuṇḍarīka* encompass practice, and 'my practice' encompasses vows. From 'Historically' downward, it next classifies according to the teachings. There are four parts: first, ancient explanations classified it under the Tripiṭaka. 'Historically' (yóulái) means 'from of old'. It means that ancients historically made this explanation. Because the name Samantabhadra is common while its meaning is distinct, it should also be said to be common to the shared and distinct [teachings]; that it is absent in the text is an abbreviation. Thus we know that explaining Samantabhadra by means of the three teachings is completely erroneous. Next, from 'Now we clarify' onward, it explains it according to the perfect [teaching]. Third, from 'If the ten faiths' downward, it further compares it with the preceding stages to overturn the shared and distinct teachings. Fourth, from 'Now we discuss' downward, it explains it again.
