Next, the proper explanation is divided into four: first, clarifying that within this single sūtra the preceding four passages are fully present; second, the proper interpretation; third, from “If one discusses” onward, distinguishing increase and decrease; fourth, from “resemblance” onward, determining the stages. The next part also has two: first, in terms of the standard rules for propagating the sūtra, clarifying that they equally possess one thousand; second, in terms of the realm of principle, they equally possess one thousand two hundred. First, wishing to give the proper explanation, it further critiques Guāngzhái. Now, relying on the “Peaceful Practices” chapter to clarify the three karmic activities, this precisely corresponds to the “Dharma Master” chapter relying on the standard rules for propagating the sūtra, thereby enabling the attainment of the purity of the six faculties. It is not like Guāngzhái simply speaking of the ten wholesome actions and combining them with the five kinds of Dharma masters to form the combined number. Now it clarifies that only when the number is complete does it state that the five kinds of Dharma masters each possess six thousand. Therefore, it now first explains the three karmic activities and ten wholesome actions in terms of the “Peaceful Practices” chapter, and next clarifies the ten suchnesses of a single realm; matching the aspect of transforming others as well as the three items such as the robe, there are already sixty, which only then constitutes the perfect practice. Here, the three karmic activities are none other than the six faculties; hence they are not matched with the six faculties again. When the merits of the three karmic activities are achieved, the six faculties are pure. From “The five kinds” onward, it clarifies that each master purifies the six faculties.
