釋「供養」者，猶在彼眾為聞《無量義經》，眾集之時而修供養，故釋「爾時」不得云眾集時也。彼經所列凡諸來者咸持供具，有引《華嚴經》諸供養雲從十方來，亦未全然。若大莊嚴所獻供養，此例似爾，若國人所置並凡力所為。

In explaining "making offerings": still within that assembly, in order to hear the Innumerable Meanings Sūtra, when the assembly gathered they cultivated offerings; therefore, in explaining "at that time," one must not say it was the time when the assembly gathered. Those listed in that sūtra, all who came, held offering requisites; someone cited the Avataṃsaka Sūtra saying clouds of various offerings came from the ten directions, but that is not entirely so either. If it was the offerings presented by Great Adornment, this example seems like that; but those arranged by the people of the country were entirely made by ordinary human effort.
