2.26

釋「孫陀羅難陀」因緣中，初是世界，「四月」下為人，「婦即」下對治，云云者，文略，義當後時得道是第一義。「彌沙塞」者，彼《律》乃是跋難陀，且以名同釋之，俱端正故。「地獄天堂」已後文，廣如《止觀》第二記。本迹觀心如前者，如前難陀中。

In explaining the background of “Sundarananda,” the first is the mundane; from “four months” onward is the individual; from “his wife then” onward is therapeutic; where it says “and so on,” the text is abridged, and the meaning corresponds to his later attainment of the path as the ultimate truth. Regarding “Mahiśāsaka,” in their Vinaya it is Upananda; they are tentatively explained together because their names are similar, both being handsome. The text from “hell and heaven” onward is treated at length in the second note of the Zhiguan. Origin and traces and contemplation of mind are as above—as in the previous [section on] Nanda.
