Fixing it upon the face is why it says "in front." In the treatise, initially having between the eyebrows is also like this. Furthermore, it says: from beginningless time, men and women looking at each other give rise to thoughts of desire, which are mostly on the face. Furthermore, it says: the five faculties such as the eyes can give rise to the mind of desire, which can be understood as stated. Now the text divides "in front" and "on the face" into two explanations, because of establishing their meaning. First, regarding the text on "in front," it makes an explanation of what is represented, which is the intention of the four siddhāntas. Next, regarding "on the face," it establishes four explanations based on meaning, which is the intention of the four teachings. First, having turning away and facing toward is the mundane; contemplating calm concentration arising is the individual; turning away from the evil of birth and death is the counteractive; calm extinction possessing principle is the supreme truth. Next, regarding the teachings: the perfection of the contemplation of impurity is distinctly the initial teaching; corresponding with emptiness, how could it not be the shared teaching? For distinguishing, how could it not be the separate teaching? True character is precisely the intention of the perfect teaching.
