The face possesses five faculties, and the four all have the body [faculty]; when conditioning direct-perception objects such as visible forms, the mind [faculty] furthermore resides above them. Therefore the *Kośa* says: "Possessing the body faculty has nine entities; the remaining faculties have ten entities." Speaking of "nine entities": namely the four great elements that can create—earth, water, fire, and wind—and the created visible forms, scents, tastes, and tangibles, together with the one body faculty; hence it says "nine entities." Speaking of "ten entities": the remaining faculties such as the eye all possess ten entities; just as on the eye faculty there are the four that can create and the four created, with the eye and body faculties, it thus makes ten. The eye and others feeling touch is precisely the nature of the body faculty.
