5.55

問「五濁一往」等者，準初兩重四句則大小俱不為障，今從大根有障初不聞《法華》者為問，即初四句中第四句人也。前三不障，唯第四障，言非盡理故云「一往」。

Regarding the question, 'The five defilements as an initial, provisional remark...' and so forth: based on the first two sets of four propositions, neither the great nor the small is obstructed. Now, the question is posed from the perspective of those with Mahāyāna faculties who have obstructions and initially did not hear the Lotus Sūtra, who are the people of the fourth proposition in the first four propositions. The first three are not obstructed, and only the fourth is obstructed; because the statement was not exhaustive of the principle, it is called an 'initial, provisional remark.'
