Regarding "the value lies in grasping the meaning": this has already been detailed in the parable, so it is not discussed again. Regarding "there seem to be two meanings": because the affinity formed is not destroyed, both the Mahāyāna and Hīnayāna resemble [the son]; although disparagingly called "resembling," the meaning of being a son is not lost. Next, below "since the son...": it cites the primary cause to make a comparison: if we speak in terms of the primary cause, even without resembling, one is still a son, how much more so when resembling? Since they once formed an affinity, who is not a true son? Speaking from the perspective of having once run away, the father temporarily disparages him; because his stage is shallow and his delusion deep, he rebukes him by calling him "resembling." "And so forth" means distinguishing as above.
