今顯實已不復隱本，故知非也。是則初住說長為權，開權說近為實。既有本下迹高，亦有本近迹遠，用此高下開諸經中長短俱常。既了諸經長短俱常，自曉今經久遠之本，唯云常者尚未可依，驗知諸師計無常者不可依也。

Now that the real has been revealed, the origin is no longer concealed; hence we know he is not. Thus, for the first abode, speaking of length is provisional, while opening the provisional and speaking of recency is real. Since there are cases where the origin is low and the traces are high, there are also cases where the origin is recent and the traces are remote; by using this high and low, one opens the lengths in the various sūtras as all being eternal. Once one understands that the lengths in the various sūtras are all eternal, one naturally comprehends the remote origin of the present sūtra. Those who merely speak of eternity are still not to be relied upon; it is verified all the more that the masters who posit impermanence cannot be relied upon.
