Next, citing the treatise, as in the text. Next, explaining the two characters "life span" (shòuliàng): that is, the life span of the aforesaid three Tathāgatas. Therefore, within explaining the life span, each fully possesses three meanings. Herein, first briefly explaining "life" (shòu), next broadly explaining "span" (liàng): this is the span of life, so broadly explaining span is precisely broadly explaining life. First, within explaining life, it first explains the character's meaning; next, from "true suchness" below, it uses the character's meaning to extend through the three bodies. Next, explaining the character "span": herein there are seven parts. First, clarifying that the meaning is universally applicable: following the three Tathāgatas, since it is naturally not fixed, it forms three propositions to explain the three bodies. Second, from "Furthermore" below, it specifically uses four propositions to resolve the previous three bodies. Third, from "One body is precisely" below, it mutually integrates the three bodies. Fourth, from "Accord with conditions" below, it responds to capacities unfixedly. Fifth, from "This chapter" below, it evaluates in terms of the bodies. Sixth, from "Furthermore" below, it evaluates origin and traces. Seventh, questions and answers resolving doubts.
