This text contains three admonitions. Regarding the passage from “three requests” to “solemn and earnest”: since it says within the requests, “Having thus spoken three times, they further said,” one should know that it reached four [times]. After the three requests, the Buddha also said, “Listen attentively,” which is the fourth admonition. Combining these with the previous admonitions, permissions, and three requests in the trace gate, there are five admonitions and seven requests. “Solemn and earnest” is explained as before. Regarding the passage from “former seven provisional means” to “sincere and true”: stating that the seven provisional means are provisional is provisionally drawing upon former provisionals; if contrasted with the fruit gate, both provisional and real are in accord with the minds of others. Because among people of the perfect [teaching] there are also those who have attained the acceptance of the non-arising of dharmas, they easily hear of the distant [origin], and so it is set aside and not discussed; therefore, this distinction in application between self and others is fully detailed in the text of the *Profound Meaning*.
