Regarding "Although entering the open samādhi" and so forth: the phrase "open samādhi" still follows the intent of the preceding preface; because it has not yet exhausted its purport, the word "although" is posited. Since the intent lies in uniting, how could the essence of the samādhi be contrary? Ordinary samādhis have not yet been said to issue into the many from the one, much less has anyone ever said that from the many they return to the one. Expressing the united by means of the open, it therefore differs from the ordinary. Since Mañjuśrī cites antiquity, saying "all had this matter," we know without doubt that there are two meanings to the one samādhi; hence it says: how does this verify the present? Regarding "How could it be that..." and so forth: the ancients did not establish the expounding and the samādhi as portents, and therefore they are broadly rebuked; this was established by the great provisionality of the compiler of the sūtra, and hence is not something to be measured by ordinary people.
